‘observers&makers’ is a pop-up exhibition that showcases the work of nine practice-based PhD researchers from Manchester Metropolitan University who are affiliated with the Postgraduate Arts and Humanities Centre (PAHC), and the Manchester School of Art Research Centre (MSARC).

The group participated in a four-day residency at Bidston Observatory Artistic Research Centre (BOARC), a self-organising, communal study site that focuses on providing a low cost, temporary place for cultural and artistic practice, research and experimentation, and community development in February 2023. Inspired by the observatory’s rich history of scientific inquiry and discovery, the artist researchers explored various aspects of their research topics and experimented with different mediums to observe and make in this unique environment.

From paint, sketches, stitches, sound, collage, photography, augmented reality, text and performance, this diverse range of works reflect interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches that engage with the history, architecture and landscape of the observatory.

The exhibition will be held on Friday 12th May 10am-9pm, with a celebration event from 6-8:30pm. Don’t miss this opportunity to discover the creative outcomes of these projects and learn more about their processes and insights.

There will also be workshops through the day – download the flyer here. Find out more about Raising the Time Ball.
