In Gallery Five we present an exhibition of prints by William T Rawlinson.

Another look: Printmaking

To coincide with this exhibition, local artist Janine Suggett kindly lent her knowledge to this video exploration of the printmaking process. She introduces us to the tools and techniques which Rawlinson perfected to create his incredible prints.

Born and raised in Liverpool, artist William Thomas Rawlinson found his love of woodcut engraving early on in his career, and it became a defining part of his style. As a schoolteacher Rawlinson led an everyday life, but his artworks gained him international renown. He won awards from many of the exhibitions he presented at, as well as being appointed as an official war artist during World War II.​

His use of scenes from his life as inspiration along with his highly detailed depictions, make his work a glimpse into the memories and moments that made up his life. In this way, this exhibition curates his work rather like a ‘photo album’ into aspects of his life, exploring how the themes of nostalgia and nature along with the aesthetic of his style combine to make his art so engaging.

Thanks to a donation made by his wife upon the artist’s death, we have an amazing selection of limited edition prints which we are delighted to showcase in this exhibition.
